Life is tough for youngster Frits in this beautifully acted coming-of-age drama, set in 1960s Denmark. Not only is the 13-year-old suffering troubles at home but he's also started a new school where the headmaster is a total monster. Lindum-Svendsen keeps his students in line using beatings and intimidation. Following a particularly out-of-order punishment and influenced by the TV news reports he's seen about the American Civil Rights movement, Frits decides to fight back. However, the resulting conflict has major repercussions for the boy and his family making this a really affecting and inspirational watch.
Based on a true story, this is a tale of friendship and the loss of innocence in a boarding school in Nazi-occupied France.
