Synopsis

For the people of Chile, 1988 was a hugely significant year. For fifteen years their nation had been run by a military dictatorship, led by the ruthless General Augustus Pinochet. But under pressure from an unhappy population and foreign diplomats, a referendum was held to allow the Chilean people to determine whether Pinochet’s reign should continue. This Oscar-nominated drama tells the story of a simple but effective campaign, devised by innovative advertising executive René Saavedra, to oust Pinochet from power by persuading the country to vote ‘No’.

What our educators say

"It really is a chance for us to open children's minds to the power of film not just as a vehicle for entertainment but also as a way in to understanding their own world and the worlds of people whose lives are very different."
