Woody Allen is mostly known as a prolific director of talky relationship comedies, but every now and again he makes a whimsical fantasy like The Purple Rose of Cairo. Owen Wilson plays Gil, an American tourist in Paris with a relationship that’s on the rocks. One night he decides to take a lonely wander and stumbles across a port hole that leads to 1920s Paris - a glamorous time populated by many of his favourite artists. But is it a better time to be alive than his own? There's lots of fun to be had in this movie as well as some interesting musings on nostalgia.
Entertaining and whimsical Woody Allen film about a Depression era woman who blurs the boundary between real life and the movies.
