Synopsis

Due to the power of a mysterious remote-control, modern-day teens David and his sister Jennifer get zapped into a bland 1950s TV sitcom where they become the characters 'Bud' and 'Mary Sue'. David, who has been unhappy at home, is excited by this, but Jennifer is furious. Pretty soon, the two of them have disturbed the perfectly nice, but dull and unthinking world of their new friends and neighbours. A beautiful-looking film that is very funny in places, Pleasantville also debates the costs and gains of the breakdown of 1950s conformist society.

What our educators say

"We are currently screening The Wizard of Oz, profound film that it is, and the last film Wall-E. It's been rewarding observing the KS1 6 year olds run the gamut of emotions from wonder to sadness to joy. "
