Synopsis

It's a simple idea, although a much harder one to carry out. This documentary tracks four newborn babies over the course of a year. Two are born in very rich and technologically advanced cities: Tokyo and San Francisco, and the other two in the remote deserts of Namibia and Mongolia. There is more than a simple comparison between rich and poor, though as their everyday lives naturally unfold in front of us. With no narration and little input from adults the film is true to its title - you spend as much time as possible just watching the charismatic young children.

What our educators say

"It really is a chance for us to open children's minds to the power of film not just as a vehicle for entertainment but also as a way in to understanding their own world and the worlds of people whose lives are very different."

- Marlon Perkins, Teacher, Whitstable and Seasalter Endowed CofE Junior School, Kent
