Synopsis

The Three Caballeros is Disney, but not as you know it. This unusual animation sees Donald Duck go on adventures through Latin America after receiving birthday gifts from friends there. The first is a movie projector with a film about South American birds, the second a book on Brazil which takes him to the Bahia beaches, and the third a piñata leading to a magic shawl-ride across Mexico. Combining animation with live-action featuring Latino singing and dancing stars of the era, it’s a fun film with a serious aim: the US government wanted to familiarise its citizens with South America in the hope it would find allies there.

What our educators say

"It really is a chance for us to open children's minds to the power of film not just as a vehicle for entertainment but also as a way in to understanding their own world and the worlds of people whose lives are very different."

- Marlon Perkins, Teacher, Whitstable and Seasalter Endowed CofE Junior School, Kent
