Synopsis

This 2006 animated version of Hans Christian Andersen's The Ugly Duckling comes from the author's home country of Denmark. Playfully reworking Andersen's original story, this film finds room for a fast-talking, untrustworthy rat who decides to exploit an unusual looking duckling in a freak-show circus act. Bright and cheerful animation and some characterful voice work by the English-language cast make this a fun new take on a much-loved classic.

What our educators say

"It really is a chance for us to open children's minds to the power of film not just as a vehicle for entertainment but also as a way in to understanding their own world and the worlds of people whose lives are very different."
