Synopsis

Dave's very ordinary life as a student changes fast when a strange, croaky-voiced character called Balthazar turns up. Although he seems a bit like an ageing rock star, Balthazar is in fact a 1,300-year-old master magician and has decided Dave is destined to be his apprentice. There are of course ancient evil villains to defeat, but much of the fun comes from Balthazar showing Dave how to use his new powers around New York City.

What our educators say

"It really is a chance for us to open children's minds to the power of film not just as a vehicle for entertainment but also as a way in to understanding their own world and the worlds of people whose lives are very different."

- Marlon Perkins, Teacher, Whitstable and Seasalter Endowed CofE Junior School, Kent
