Rent was a hit Broadway musical for years before this larger-than-life adaptation was made for the big screen. Based on the classic opera La Boheme, Rent relocates Puccini's tale of struggling artists from 19th-century Paris to 1980s New York. The young inhabitants of the arty, run-down East Village face drug addiction, HIV and tricky love lives. On top of all that, they have to pay their bills somehow. Singing and dancing seems to help them through their troubles, though.
This film has drugs references, a couple of uses of strong bad language, and scenes of moderate sexual behaviour.
