Tassos Boulmetis wrote and directed this largely autobiographical drama about growing up during a time of great upheaval. Young Greek Fanis lives in Turkey and spends a lot of time in his grandfather Vasilis's grocery store, learning about everything from spices to the mysteries of the universe. He also falls for a Turkish girl called Saime. Then, in 1963, Greek-Turkish relations sour and Fanis and his parents are forced to move to Athens. Life goes on, but Fanis yearns to see Vasilis and Saime again. A touching tale which, despite Fanis's miserable situation, does manage to deliver plenty of fun along the way.
This powerful drama sees a child separated from his parents during the 1931 Japanese invasion of China and put in an internment camp for foreigners.
