Synopsis

Prince Hamlet of Denmark is the son of the recently deceased King Hamlet, and nephew of King Claudius who has quickly succeeded to the throne and also married his brother’s widow, Gertrude. Hamlet is chastised by his uncle for continuing to publicly mourn his father’s passing and is forbidden to return to his education as punishment. On a cold night at the Danish royal castle, two sentries discuss having recently seen a ghost which resembles the late King Hamlet. When they bring Prince Hamlet’s friend Horatio to witness their sighting and the vision appears again, the three vow to tell Prince Hamlet of their experience. After Hamlet learns of his father’s ghost and resolves to see it for himself, the spirit declares that he was murdered by Claudius who usurped his throne. Hamlet resolves to exact revenge on behalf of his father, but must concoct a secret plan in order to do so. This adaptation of William Shakespeare’s ‘Hamlet’ is an epic, unabridged version of the text with an all-star cast.

What our educators say

"Some of them saw a clip from Wakolda (The German Doctor) on TV recently and really wanted to watch it. So I thought I’d take a chance, not expecting them to watch the whole film but the majority were absolutely gripped. "
