On the last day of high school in small-town Texas, 1976, next year's seniors are "hazing" the incoming freshmen, and everyone is cruising around listening to rock music and looking for the big party. Richard Linklater's coming-of-age comedy, an American Graffiti for the 1970s generation, focuses on new boy Mitch, but expands to feature a large ensemble cast (including future stars Matthew McConaughey, Ben Affleck and Parker Posey). Their adventures over the course of a day reflect teenage life itself: all at once aimless and anticlimactic, energetic and magical.
Contains strong language and underage alcohol and drug usage.
