Accessibility:

Ángela is a Deaf woman in Spain who is overjoyed when she discovers she is pregnant with her hearing partner, Héctor. As the two of them look forward to becoming parents, they are faced with painful prejudices and systemic barriers from social workers, hospital staff and relatives that cause Angela to become more anxious about both the birth of the child and her role as a Deaf mother in the child's life. After Ángela gives birth to a hearing baby, her world becomes a tense negotiation over cochlear implants, language choices, and schooling. This Spanish film is a hugely empathetic and formally surprising drama that unpacks concepts like Deaf culture, accessibility, and the difference between a medical "cure" and genuine inclusion.
