This set of resources, produced in partnership with the National Literacy Trust and aimed primarily at students aged 11-14, is based around the film Private Peaceful - the 2012 screen adaptation of Michael Morpurgo's book of the same name. It provides an in-depth and collaborative way to commemorate World War One with your students.

From script analysis to investigating the science of chemical warfare and the geography of war torn landscapes, the resource spans six different themes. For each of these themes - which include curriculum links to History, English, Citizenship, Geography, R.E. and Science - you'll find teachers notes, discussion questions, recommended activities and worksheets. All of which are complemented and enhanced by PowerPoint presentations with embedded Private Peaceful film clips.

Updating our resources

We have developed a large catalogue of educational resources since launching in 2013, and some references and terminology will inevitably have dated as society and language evolves. We are aware of this and will be updating resources when our production schedule allows.

What our educators say

"The Filmmaking Guides have been invaluable in helping novice filmmakers, from ensuring their story is well told, to thinking about light, camera angles and editing."
