About the Resource

Hamlet: Shakespeare for All engages with this immersive new adaptation to open up discussions about bringing fresh perspectives and interpretations to Shakespeare’s plays. Learners will develop their comparative analysis skills, practice the close study of British film, and gain insight into screen careers.

By considering the British South Asian identity of Academy Award-winning producer and star Riz Ahmed, students will reflect on cultural representation, and how casting impacts a production and its perception. Through an exercise comparing parallel moments from an exclusive clip, the film’s screenplay, and Shakespeare’s text, students will develop their understanding of storyboarding and scripting. Finally, a creative writing competition gives students the chance to flex their own interpretive and imaginative muscles.

The resource includes:

  • 1 x PowerPoint presentation
  • 1 x Lesson plan
  • Teaching notes
  • 1 x Storyboard activity sheet
  • 1 x Character Journal competition sheet

Updating our resources

We have developed a large catalogue of educational resources since launching in 2013, and some references and terminology will inevitably have dated as society and language evolves. We are aware of this and will be updating resources when our production schedule allows.
