Do you teach a film qualification subject, such as Moving Image Arts or Film Studies? If so, then Story Builder Filmmaker is your new go-to resource to support students through the filmmaking process.

Structured with the step-by-step approach of our popular Story Builder resources, the Filmmaker edition provides learning and support to ensure learners understand the filmmaking process and have a framework to consider, plan for, and begin creating what they need for their film qualification.

From idea generation to exhibition and evaluation, Story Builder: Filmmaker is packed with relevant information and activities to make a film that develops a range of skills, including idea generation, planning and organising, decision-making, and problem-solving.

From sound recordists to producers to location managers, Story Builder: Filmmaker spotlights the diverse careers that make up the screen industry, both above and below the line. Students will explore a wide range of careers, increasing their awareness of screen industry job roles and responsibilities, as well as how crew members collaborate across departments.

The accompanying Film Journal resource lists all the films included in Story Builder: Filmmaker, with directors, genres, release years, and countries of origin included for reference. The journal is an additional tool for students to record and rate the films they have seen, as well as list those they wish to see. Exploring, watching, and reflecting on films and genres from around the world and throughout film history will take learners on a journey of discovery and inspiration, influencing their own storytelling and supporting their critical analysis skills.

Updating our resources

We have developed a large catalogue of educational resources since launching in 2013, and some references and terminology will inevitably have dated as society and language evolves. We are aware of this and will be updating resources when our production schedule allows.

What our educators say

"As an alternative provision for learners who are not in mainstream school we use your resources in a slightly different way as they generally find it hard to watch a full length film. They are, however fantastic. "
