This resource, suitable for learners aged 11+, examines some of the key themes in the film Tomboy and the role of the camera in presenting identities and relationships. 
 
The learning sequence starts with students exploring what is meant by the terms ‘identity' and ‘equality'. Learners will then investigate the Equality Act (2010) audio-visual materials and details about the filmmaker. After this, the class will learn about some camera angles and movements and how these elements of film language can act to present equality and power dynamics. Learners will then use a short clip and create a sense of equality by selecting and drawing elements of camerawork in a storyboard.

As an extension, there are suggestions for making their storyboards into a film with the option to undertake a practical drama activity if camera equipment is not available.
