Films in this strand revisit key moments in history through this year's epic new releases as well as archive and heritage film. Titles in this strand include those that mark the partition of India 70 years ago, the Independence of Botswana in 1966, the role of Women in WW2, and a programme of archive film from the British Film Institute that captures Black Britain on Film. The films encompass themes of politics, history, democracy, film studies and literature.

This resource is made up of a Powerpoint presentation with activities and teacher's notes designed to enhance your experience of visiting the festival and can be used before or after viewing a film that is part of the History in Action strand. You can cherry-pick the activities in this resource and use the ‘extend' or ‘simplify' suggestions for learners of different ages and stages.

There is an accompanying Film Literacy Activities pack available to download which contains worksheets referred to in the Powerpoint presentation.

Please note that this resource is for Secondary only.

Updating our resources

We have developed a large catalogue of educational resources since launching in 2013, and some references and terminology will inevitably have dated as society and language evolves. We are aware of this and will be updating resources when our production schedule allows.

What our educators say

"Our SATs results this year were great, both progress and attainment in reading and writing have improved compared with last year, which we feel has been largely as a result of integrating the Into Film strategies."
