Book now for free World Music Day screenings across the UK

For 2018's World Music Day celebrations, we're inviting our young audiences to revisit some classic musicals from Hollywood that are having significant anniversaries this year. Mulan turns 20, Hairspray is 30 and Oliver! is 50 years old!

Mary Poppins pays a nod to the Suffragist movement as we mark 100 years since some women got the right to vote in the UK, while for older students we revisit Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet with two magnificent interpretations: Bernstein's West Side Story and Baz Luhrmann's dazzling Romeo + Juliet. Both films truly demonstrate the power of music to communicate when words just aren't enough.

Still focused on music and the world stage, the films for the older age groups highlight the power of music in the arena of protest and effecting change. We have a screening in Totnes with civil rights drama Selma, plus The Punk Singer, a documentary relevant to the feminist movements in popular culture today, will be screening at the Phoenix in Leicester. 

We also have exciting London and Birmingham pupil premiers of Village Rockstars - an Indian drama about a spirited young girl trying to start a band in her remote, flood-hit village. Village Rockstars is suitable for students aged 9+, and is presented in partnership with Bagri Foundation London Indian Film Festival.
