This week (17 - 23 June) marks Refugee Week, with Thursday 20 June being World Refugee Day. These annual calendar dates are increasingly important, as the number of people seeking refuge in other countries around the world continues to rise, with the issue often dominating the news in the UK.
Through the medium of film, the stories of refugees can be brought into the classroom and directly to young people, prompting discussion, empathy and an increased awareness of the world we live in and our interconnected global community.
Below, you can find several resources to help you discuss this often delicate topic with your Into Film Club or classroom, as well as a refugee-focused film list, and further reading to help contextualise and bring these issues to life for young people.
In particular, the young person-made short documentary Miracle Life - which won an Into Film Award in 2017 - is a wonderful insight into the experiences of those who have had to leave their own countries behind and come to call the UK their home.
