We recently launched a brand new learning resource to celebrate the release of new Disney+ Original movie The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild. Our Ice Age: Survive and Thrive with Buck Wild resource takes students aged 6-11 on a learning adventure through science, English/literacy, PSHE and art and design.
As part of this resource, we also ran a competition, which asked young people to create a poster to teach others about their favourite natural habitat, including imagery of the plants and animals that call it home. We had dozens of entries from all over the UK, and we're delighted to present the winner.
Congratulations to Jenna, aged 11, from Victoria Primary School in Falkirk, Scotland, who chose the rainforest as her favourite habitat. Jenna's beautifully drawn entry listed some of the animals that live in the rainforest, as well as detailing some of the threats that are faced by this rich and delicate environment. Jenna also included a few fun titbits, such as the fact that the rainforest canopy is so dense that only around 2% of sunlight actually makes it through to ground-level!
"I was totally shocked and surprised when I found out I won", said Jenna. "The habitat that I chose was rainforest because there are lots of interesting things and I loved drawing the colourful animals."
Jenna won an animation kit for herself, alongside prizes for her class including a special stop-motion animation workshop and a lightbox. Jenna and all of her classmates also received special Ice Age merchandise bundles from Disney+. Check out Jenna's winning entry below.
This competition has helped me and my class learn much more about habitats. The tasks that we did were very fun; to share what you already know and to learn from your peers.

Ice Age: Survive and Thrive with Buck Wild is a two-lesson curriculum-linked learning sequence that is most suitable for 6-11 year olds. The programme links scientific learning with issues of sustainability and the preservation of habits, encouraging students to have a voice in the protection of habitats under threat. To support teaching, this resource includes:
Throughout the journey, the resource offers key curricular links to science, English/literacy, PSHE and art and design. Students will develop their scientific vocabulary, discuss key issues relating to environmental sustainability and will also receive further engaging activities, including a story-building exercise to plan a new adventure for Crash and Eddie, two of the key characters from the film.
Taking inspiration from the adventures of our favourite sub-zero heroes, this curriculum-linked learning programme is designed to promote learning engagement, teamwork and develop discussion about the growing importance of environmental sustainability, the threats and challenges faced by the animal world, and how creatures from the ice age were impacted by changes to their habitats.
