'Josh the Squash' is our latest Film of the Month winner

Our latest winner of Film of the Month is Josh the Squash (Josh y Sgwash) made by 4 young people, aged between 5-10, from Penygroes in Gwynedd, Wales. This charming Welsh language tale follows a squash that goes on an exciting adventure to find belonging and friendship. We are delighted to share that our Special Mention this month goes to Outside the Box, an incredibly impressive experimental film made by Taran and Joseph, both aged between 15-16, from Llandeilo in Carmarthenshire, Wales.

Josh the Squash is an exciting adventure that follows a squash named Josh, who doesn't believe that anyone will ever want him. When he leaves his home in the community garden in search of belonging, he has to overcome many amusing obstacles and debacles, only to come to the realisation that perhaps he always belonged where he was!

We caught up with one of the filmmakers who made the film, read on to hear from them about their experience.

How does it feel to win Film of the Month?

It feels great to win film of the month. It makes all the hard work worthwhile.

Who/what are your filmmaking inspirations?

I enjoy action and comedy films, my inspirations would be Tom Cruise and Adam Sandler.

What did you enjoy most about the filmmaking process?

We really enjoyed the process of bringing Josh to life. The hardest part was trying to het Josh to land half way down the stairs as he was falling, in the end we decided to change the scene and to let him roll all the way down to the bottom. We all sat down and drew pictures of what we would like to do and characters, after discussing it we incorporated the ideas and came up with "Josh the Squash". We enjoyed the whole process, I don't think we would change a thing.

What message would you like audiences to take from your film?

That everyone can be friends and get in no matter differences

What are you working on at the moment?

I am not working on anything at the moment but I look forward to doing more animation.

Special Mention - Outside the Box

Each month, we select a film that we feel deserves to be celebrated alongside the winning film. This month, we are delighted to give our Special Mention to Outside the Box, made by Taran and Joseph, both aged 15-16, from Llandeilo in Carmarthenshire.

Outside The Box is a contemporary short film that discusses how filmmakers often believe that their films must fit modern trends and standards, shying away from their true creativity. Discussed through contemporary visuals and a dynamic monologue, we aid the voice of weakened muse.

Enillwyr diweddara' Ffilm y Mis (DU) yw Josh y Sgwash gan 4 berson ifanc 5-10 mlwydd oed o Benygroes, Gwynedd. Mae'r ffilm hon yn dilyn anturiaethau sgwash, cymeriad sy'n chwilio am gyfeillgarwch a chymuned. Ar ben hyn, mae'r ffilm Outside the Box yn derbyn cydnabyddiaeth arbennig y mis hwn. Dyma ffilm grefftus ac arbrofol gan Taran a Joseph, sy'n 15 a 16 mlwydd oed, hefyd o Gymru o Landeilo, Sir Gaerfyrddin.

Mae Josh y Sgwash yn dilyn anturiaethau Sgwash unig o'r enw Josh. Mae'n gadael ei gartref - gardd gymunedol ac yn chwilio am gyfeillgarwch a'r ymdeimlad o berthyn… ond wrth iddo wneud, mae'n wynebu sawl her diddorol. Ond yn y pendraw, daw Josh i ddeall a gwerthfawrogi nad oedd angen iddo chwilio am rhywbeth newydd, a'i fod mewn gwirionedd wedi dod o hyd i'w gartref yn yr ardd gymunedol yn y lle cynta!

Dyma ni'n cael sgwrs fer gyda'r gwneuthurwyr ffilm ifanc i ddysgu mwy am eu profiadau'n creu'r ffilm…

Sut mae'n teimlo i ennill Ffilm y Mis?

Mae'n deimlad gwych. Mae'n dangos ei hi'n werth gwerithio'n galed ar rhywbeth.

Pwy neu beth sy'n dy ysbrydoli i greu ffilmiau?

Dwi'n mwynhau ffilmiau antur, comedi ac mae Tom Cruise a Adam Sandler yn fy ysbrydoli.

Pa fath o brofiad oedd hi i greu ffilm fel grwp?

Fe wnaethom ni fwynhau dod a Josh yn fyw. Y darn mwya anodd oedd i gael Josh i lanio hanner ffordd lawr y grisia, achos roedd o'n syrthio o hyd. Bu'n rhaid inni newid yr olygfa oherwydd hyn - fel ei fod yn rolio yr holl ffordd i lawr. Fe wnaethom ni ddod at ein gilydd i ddylunio'r cymeiadau, ac yna wedi trafod fe ddaethom ni lan gyda'r syniad o Josh y Sgwosh. Fe wnaethom ni fwynhau'r holl broses ac felly mae'n anodd meddwl am newid unrhywbeth.

Beth fyddai eich neges i gynulleidfa'r ffilm?

Fod pawb yn gallu bod yn ffrindiau er eich bod yn wahanaol.

Beth ydych chi'n ei weithio arno ar hyn o bryd?

Does dim prosiect ar y gweill ond dwi'n edrych ymlaen at wneud fwy o animeiddio.

Cydnabyddiaeth arbennig i Outside the Box

Bob mis ry'n ni'n dewis un ffilm o blith bob ffilm a anfonwyd atom fel bod modd i ni dynnu sylw a dathlu gwaith gwych pobl ifanc ledled y DU. Y mis hwn, ry'n ni'n tynnu sylw at ffilm Outside the Box Taran a Joseph o Landeilo, Sir Gaerfyrddin.

Dyma ffilm gyfoes sy'n trin a thrafod y syniad o greu darn o gelf sy'n gorfod cydymffurfio neu dilyn patrwm safonol neu benodol ac felly yn mynd yn erbyn y gwir nod o fod yn greadigol. Cyflwynir y ffilm drwy ddefnyddio dulliau arbrofol ac arloesol er mwyn ategu'r neges a'r thema'n bwerus.
