Let's get into the spooky spirit this Halloween!
Horror is one of the most entertaining and timeless genres in filmmaking, and despite many horror films receiving higher age rating certificates, it's not just for grown-ups. Horror provides an opportunity for young people to experiment with different filmmaking techniques and effects, applying more youth-friendly approaches to the conventions and iconography of the genre.
Do you know a young person who has a compelling spooky story to tell? Then why not encourage them to enter the 2025 Into Film Awards! Whether they have a distinctive villain in mind, or a story filled with suspense and tension, we'd love to see it. Some eerie music or creepy sound effects can go a long way to helping generate an unsettling atmosphere, and there are plenty of ways to explore scary filmmaking techniques, whether in live action or animation.
The winner of Best Film - 16-19 at the 2024 Into Film Awards was a horror film, and is a fantastic example of what young people can achieve. Made by Laquarn McQueen, aged 18, from London, STOP is a striking supernatural horror film that is guaranteed to send chills down spines.
Creepy and crisply shot, STOP sees two youngsters decide to explore a supposedly haunted house, only to get far more than they bargained for. As they venture deeper into the house, they begin to experience strange and eerie occurrences that suggest something sinister is lurking within the walls...
"When coming up with the idea for STOP I took inspiration from The Blair Witch Project, Insidious, and The Exorcist", explains Laquarn. "My original idea was to put all these films into one... but I came across many different challenges, one being that my original plan was too big, and I wasn't able to fit within the time scale. I was able to problem solve quite a bit throughout the whole project. With this being my first ever film, I feel as if I did a good job, and I learnt quite a bit from it."
We regularly receive horror films to our ongoing Film of the Month competition, and indeed, our latest winner, Incursion, is a chilling entry to the home invasion horror sub-genre. Made by Seth, from Leicestershire, Incursion sees a group of friends planning to watch scary movies together on Halloween, only for the night to take an unexpected turn.
Seth's film is a creative horror short that builds tension through lighting, sound, and camera work, and is another great example of how the genre can spark young people's creativity.
The Into Film Awards 2025
The Into Film Awards are our way of recognising some of the brilliant talent and creativity among young people across the UK, and winning an award can be just the first step on an incredible journey into the world of film and beyond.

How to enter
To enter the Into Film Awards, you'll need to be logged in to your Into Film Account. If you don't have an Account, it only takes a moment to set one up. You can begin your entry and submit it immediately, or just make a start and finish it later.
Please note: you must be aged 20 or over to submit an entry - if you are aged 19 or under, please ask a parent, guardian, educator, or other adult to submit your entry on your behalf.
