Cats: Character and Community

Ages

7–14

Duration

Medium (5-11 activities)

Our Character and Community resource, created to celebrate the release of Tom Hooper's Cats, takes pupils aged 7-14 on a PSHE-led learning sequence which builds towards the creation of an imaginative poem. Along the way pupils will consider identity and personality types and the importance of forming their own opinions of people. The wonderful array of characters and personalities in Cats provide a pivotal creative stimulus for these discussions.

Through the trailer, pupils will also engage with themes of acceptance and redemption and weave an expression of these into their poetry. All pupils will be encouraged to enter the My School Community competition that encourages them to explore the idea of what makes a community for the chance to win a private screening of the film for their class!

Note: the competition closed on 10 January 2020. See the winning entries.

Updating our resources

We have developed a large catalogue of educational resources since launching in 2013, and some references and terminology will inevitably have dated as society and language evolves. We are aware of this and will be updating resources when our production schedule allows.

What our educators say

"As an alternative provision for learners who are not in mainstream school we use your resources in a slightly different way as they generally find it hard to watch a full length film. They are, however fantastic. "
