Princess mononoke is a Studio Ghibli masterpiece from 1997. The story is set in 14th century japan, and follows a young prince called Ashitaka who goes to iron town, because there are clashes between the gods in the forest and the humans who use the resources.

The movie explores the connection between man and nature, and shows as a warning of the damage that industry does to our environment. The main message is about war and accountability also, redemption of people’s mistakes in the past. And making peace between man, nature and the gods. Personally I love Japanese mythology and this movie draws heavily on it. ‘Kodama’ are the name of spirts in Japanese folklore. We see these throughout the movie often guiding are characters into the forest. The colour palette has mainly green tones and earthy tones, which add to the theme of nature. Green symbolises growth and renewal which fit into the themes of redemption.

Personally I loves this Flim! I love Studio Ghibli’s animation of this movie, and the story line is amazing.

I would recommend this movie to anyone who likes adventure style movies or loves well animated movies.
