Catfish Catfish, directed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman is a documentary released in 2010 staring Nev Schulman, his brother Ariel Schulman and friend Henry Joost. The film is based around the main character Nev begins to receive emails from a young girl supposedly named Abby and her family, these emails then began turning into emails, presents and letters. Nev becomes friendly with the family via the social media of Facebook and regularly chats with Abby’s old sister Megan, this later turns into a relationship. One night Nev begins to suspect something is different after Megan posts videos of her ‘music covers’ on Facebook which Nev later finds on YouTube by different people. Not giving to much away, Nev begins to take matters into his own hands and finds shocking truths about Abby and her family. Catfish the movie I believe is about how people pretend to be someone they are not because they are insecure, on social media and as one of the main characters said in the film ‘one lie is built on another lie’. Catfish had massive success with critics and has inspired the hit ‘MTV show Catfish’.
