For the best of chick flicks, you need a few ingredients. 1. You start with two true stories. Mix the two stories together until creamy. 2. Add a few sugar sweet characters to enjoy and relate to. Whisk into the mixture. 3. Stir in some mouth watering shots of food to heat the audience up. 4. Then take a few pounds of shining golden cast and add to the mix. 5. Put in oven for 118 minutes and enjoy. Julie Powell, a young woman with a dead end job and a passion for Julia Child's cooking, decides to produce over five hundred recipes in Julia's cookbook in one year, while writing a blog about the results. Forty years earlier, Julia Child arrives in Paris with her husband and falls in love with France and it's gourmet dining. She takes up cooking lessons and grows to become a professional and decides to write a cookbook for the American housewife. The stories weave together like a plait of colourful ribbon, and are as thick and comforting as butter. Meryl Streep as Julia Child is a pure pleasure to watch. I could not (and would not) stop grinning slightly manically whenever she graced the screen with her presence. Julia as a rule is jolly and optimistic to the point of Meryl overacting every scene. But it was so perfectly pulled off that it cheered the whole film up immensely. Kudos to Stanley Tucci as well for an outstanding performance as her laid back, loyal husband. And there you have a deliciously delightful film to gorge yourself with. Bon appetit!
