Shocking for its time - its story involves a pregnant teenage girl who shares a flat with an openly gay man - this drama has lasted well because it lets its characters live and breathe. Jo has been trailing after her mother, who shuffles between unsuitable men and flats not fit to live in, and then she gets pregnant. Shelagh Delaney was only 19 when she wrote the original play on which A Taste of Honey is based, and it's her brilliant words plus characters who are easy to warm to that make this such a memorable film.
Contains mature themes, some mild language and sex references.
