Czech director Jan Svankmajer will use anything for his animation - from traditional Czech puppetry to cut-out drawings to old tin cans, and from Claymation to human actors. Creating surreal imagery from everyday objects, Svankmajer investigates the emotional response that can be evoked from the juxtaposition of certain objects and ideas - often with disturbing results. At one time banned from filmmaking because his creative output didn't fit into the Communist ideology of the time and could be interpreted as critical of the regime, this collection also includes Svankmajer's special effects output during the period he was prevented from directing. What all the films in this collection have in common is that they are odd, sinister - and incredibly original.
Set in a retro-futuristic Britain, when an admin clerk spots an error in his paperwork and tries to correct it he is taken on a nightmarish journey.
