Synopsis

Spoilt Emma Woodhouse attempts to improve the lives and loves of her friends and acquaintances in this smart version of Jane Austen's early 19th-century novel. But during her clumsy attempts to play matchmaker, she doesn't realise that her emotions might be in for a bumpy ride too. While there is a moral lesson lurking in here, the real strength of both the book and the film is the sharp writing and creation of great characters.

This is a fascinating adaptation of Jane Austen's novel partly because of how very different it is to the book.

What our educators say

"It really is a chance for us to open children's minds to the power of film not just as a vehicle for entertainment but also as a way in to understanding their own world and the worlds of people whose lives are very different."
