Synopsis

A hugely influential anime (Japanese animation) based on the "manga" comic book by Katsuhiro Otomo, Akira unfolds in the post-apocalyptic community of Neo-Tokyo where Tetsuo, a rebellious motorcycle gang member falls foul of the armed soldiers who control the city. But it's after he begins to experience strange dreams of his childhood that the authorities really begin to take an interest in Tetsuo - and when his destiny begins to take shape. Akira is bona-fide cult viewing, as visually incredible as it is dramatically powerful. (This film was originally made in Japanese, but has been dubbed into English.)

What our educators say

"Some of them saw a clip from Wakolda (The German Doctor) on TV recently and really wanted to watch it. So I thought I’d take a chance, not expecting them to watch the whole film but the majority were absolutely gripped. "
