Francois is the postman in a tiny rural French village where the pace of life is unhurried, and his delivery of the mail is possibly even slower. But then Francois sees a documentary on the swiftness and efficiency of the postal system in the US. Shocked and inspired, he sets out to try and match the Americans for speed, which is quite a challenge when you've only got a rickety bicycle to work with! This delightful comedy stars the legendary French comedian Jacques Tati - perhaps most famous for his character Monsieur Hulot - and Jour De Fete finds him at his most hilarious.
The harsh sterility of modern Paris is lampooned as Monsieur Hulot becomes lost with American tourists in a glass and steel maze.
