Synopsis

Fifteen-year-old nerd Max Fischer is useless in the classroom, but outside he's king of extra-curricular activities. Setting up a plethora of different societies at the posh Rushmore Academy, he considers himself quite the sophisticate. So much so that when he falls for refined teacher Miss Cross, he can't understand why she doesn't fancy him back. Worse still, Max has a love rival, in the form of local industrial tycoon Herman Blume. Quirky and original, this black comedy is a hilarious celebration of individuality and eccentricity, centred on a kid who won't take 'no' for an answer.

What our educators say

"It really is a chance for us to open children's minds to the power of film not just as a vehicle for entertainment but also as a way in to understanding their own world and the worlds of people whose lives are very different."
