In 1985, teenager Marty McFly lives in California with his alcoholic mother, meek father, and struggling siblings. After Marty’s band flunks an audition, he worries that he’s set for the same course of failure as the rest of his family, despite his ambitions. That night, he meets up with his eccentric scientist friend, Doc Brown, who reveals that he’s created a time machine powered by stolen plutonium! As he flees the scene, Marty inadvertently activates the mechanism and travels thirty years into the past, arriving in 1955. With no fuel left to return to his own era, Marty wanders the streets of his community and encounters familiar characters in their younger years, including his own parents as teenagers. While Marty attempts to encourage his father to stand up for himself against bullies, he soon realises that his actions are altering the future and threatening his own existence. Marty, with help from Doc, must find a way back to 1985 without causing too much chaos in the meantime in this seminal sci-fi adventure.
