Feeling exhausted and disconnected from his family and work, South African filmmaker Craig Foster decides to spend more time by the ocean, which he loved as a child. He begins diving each day in the cold kelp forests near Cape Town, where he meets an octopus hiding among shells. Fascinated by her intelligence and ingenuity, Craig patiently follows her movements and gradually earns her trust. Over the course of a year, he observes how she hunts, plays, avoids predators and adapts to the dangers of her underwater home. Their extraordinary bond gives Craig a fresh sense of purpose, whilst encouraging him to reflect on the relationship that we humans have with the natural world. Featuring spectacular underwater photography, this intimate documentary offers a close-up view of an often-misunderstood species and its remarkable survival skills.
