As he graduates from high school and starts attending college, 21-year-old Samuel – who has cerebral palsy, uses a wheelchair and primarily communicates via an electronic device – has plenty of questions about adult life that he’s seeking to find the answers to. In this warm and insightful documentary, Samuel and his father hit the road armed with their camera to gather pearls of wisdom from those already navigating adulthood with disabilities. They talk to disability activists and public figures including Maysoon Zayid, Judith Heymann and Keith Jones about their different experiences, the challenges of living in an unequal society, as well as seeking the confidence and independence to forge one’s own path. From his curiosity about dating, to his frustration with people who talk down to others, Samuel’s determination and sense of humour shape the narrative into an inclusive conversation for all young people. The film captures the power of finding mentors and membership in a community, encouraging discussions about disabled lives and promotes understanding of ableism.
