Synopsis

Dan and Hilary are an artist-activist couple who have previously embarked on fanciful schemes in their work, such as purchasing and subsequently blowing up £1.2 million of local debt in their previous film. During lockdown, in their cosmopolitan North London neighbourhood of Walthamstow, they strike up a new idea in the midst of spiralling energy costs. The duo hit upon an idea to take ownership of what they see as excessive expenditure by taking their street off their grid and kickstarting a community-owned solar-powered energy revolution. To achieve this, they must not only get their neighbours to buy into the plan, but must also raise enough money for the installations. From sponsored sleeping on rooftops to growing thousands of sunflowers and attempting to secure a Christmas number one with a local school, ‘Power Station’ is a hopeful documentary packed full of resilience and community spirit.

What our educators say

"We are currently screening The Wizard of Oz, profound film that it is, and the last film Wall-E. It's been rewarding observing the KS1 6 year olds run the gamut of emotions from wonder to sadness to joy. "
