After being kicked out of his comfortable suburban foster home, 17-year-old Christy is reunited with his estranged older half-brother Shane when he temporarily moves in with him and his girlfriend. Living in a working-class area of their hometown, Cork, Shane wants to do the right thing by his brother but doesn’t feel he can take on permanent responsibility for his younger sibling, while his partner encourages Shane to try and support Christy. Initially dejected, Christy begins to settle into the community, displaying an aptitude for hairdressing, making new friends, and reuniting with old figures from the neighbourhood. But when he reconnects with his, troubled extended family who have contributed to their turbulent past, both brothers are forced to confront their shared history and decide what they each want from their future. ‘Christy’ is a powerful, empathetic, and vibrant story based on the director’s short film of the same name, with authenticity at its core.
