Within the urban landscape of Northern England, a teenage girl walks down a canal path, narrating her life story to the camera. As she fills the audience in on her turbulent family life, frenetic friendships and musical aspirations, we cut away, showcasing that the girl’s words may not always be a reflection of reality. As the journey continues, her life story begins to take on a darker tone, culminating in a shocking revelation. This short film from the early 2000s is an intimate and bold example of social realist filmmaking, told with style and humour, that explores themes of growing up, poverty and unreliable narration.
