The Christian story of the birth of Jesus is retold in a friendly and accessible manner in this live-action musical. Mary is a strong and bright young woman who lives in Nazareth with her family. She is reluctant to get married to her betrothed, Joseph, who doesn’t make a great first impression. However, after the angel Gabriel informs Mary that she is carrying the son of God, Joseph sticks loyally by his fiancé’s side. Meanwhile, three Magi from faraway lands have been tracking a star that they believe will lead them to a new king among men. But the local ruler King Herod is scared by this news and orders a census of the land so that he might identify any newborn boys. So, Joseph Mary, and her feisty donkey Fig set out for Bethlehem, on a journey of immense responsibility and faith. With plenty of humour and catchy songs, the film offers a contemporary lens on the classic Christmas story while retaining a traditional message.
