Synopsis

Kay is a twelve-year-old girl growing up in Belfast in the 1970s. Her mother has passed away, but she has a good relationship with her dad, an amateur radio enthusiast who has taught her Morse code. They’ve turned it into a game, tapping out messages to each other to decipher over the dinner table. But the arrival of a new girlfriend in Kay’s father’s life disrupts their dynamic, and now it seems like they’re on different wavelengths. Exploring themes of growing up, loneliness and the importance of clear communication, this Northern Irish archive film also offers an insight into twentieth century broadcasting technologies and code systems.
