Synopsis

Aspiring inventor Willy Wonka arrives in Europe with just a handful of silver sovereigns to his name as he seeks to establish himself in the world of chocolate. With such little savings, he can only afford to stay at a dubious-looking boarding house run by the persuasive Mrs. Scrubitt and her partner in crime Bleacher, who force Wonka to work in the launderette. During his stay, he befriends the other captives including an orphan named Noodle who accompanies Willy as he demonstrates his extravagant new chocolate inventions to enthralled patrons throughout the city. When Wonka’s rivals – led by Arthur Slugworth – witness the spectacle his chocolates create, they soon realise the threat he poses to their business and hatch a plan to make Wonka leave town. This musical family fantasy film is a sweet and charming origin story about one of children’s literature’s most beloved and beguiling characters, featuring themes such as family and friendship.
