Synopsis

Oscar and Nia don’t often get to see their father, Mark, who lives by the sea and spends his time fishing, but now that they are visiting him, things are not going smoothly. Nia is deaf and Oscar, the eldest, is frustrated with his dad because he hasn’t learnt British Sign Language. Protective of his little sister and resentful of his dad, Oscar inadvertently cuts Nia out of the angry conversations around the dinner table. But while Mark may not be very good at signing, he is eager to connect with his children – perhaps through alternative means. Exploring the many approaches to communication and nurturing family dynamics, this short film is a tender and relatable tale that reminds us of the importance of patience and inclusion.
