Synopsis

J. Robert Oppenheimer, a pioneer of theoretical quantum physics, became known as “the father of the atomic bomb” after his work during the Second World War resulted in the tragic, large-scale attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945. This biopic of his life and career veers between timelines, focusing on Oppenheimer’s work at the secret Los Alamos laboratory with his team of scientists and the subsequent political fallout after his invention changes the course of history forever. Confronting the ethical dilemmas faced when science and politics collide as well as digging into the hubris of humanity, Oppenheimer is Christoper Nolan’s latest blockbuster, merging dazzling yet terrifying images of mass destruction with personal accounts of shame and redemption.

What our educators say

"Some of them saw a clip from Wakolda (The German Doctor) on TV recently and really wanted to watch it. So I thought I’d take a chance, not expecting them to watch the whole film but the majority were absolutely gripped. "
