Early silent animation pioneer Anson Dyer takes the story of William Shakespeare’s 'Hamlet' and transposes it to cut-out animation in this early silent short. Almost like a pantomime, Dyer takes a small portion of Shakespeare’s play and fills it full of slapstick gags that see Ophelia falling into a river and Hamlet giving her dad a kick up the backside. A fascinating window into how artists were already finding ways to re-tell Shakespeare’s stories during the early days of cinema and animation.
