Film critic and animation expert Michael Leader explores the themes of anime maestros Studio Ghibli. Some of the studio’s most well-worn topics include family, friendship, growing up, and food, while magic is also often a key ingredient. From the fantastical titles such as Spirited Away, My Neighbour Totoro and Howl’s Moving Castle to the more realistic adventures of The Wind Rises, When Marnie Was There, and Whisper of the Heart, the studio has continued to dazzle fans of all ages over a number of decades.
