Set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this film from award-winning director Chloé Zhao strikes a different tone in its approach to the world of superheroes. Taking place across thousands of years and jumping from earth to space and back again, it tells the story of the Eternals, a race of immortal aliens that have been living on Earth for millennia and have secretly been shaping human civilisation as we know it. When mankind’s oldest enemies The Deviants, who were assumed to have been defeated, suddenly reappear, the Eternals must reunite and once again save the planet from extinction. With fresh characters being introduced and more mature themes being explored, including the ethics of being an immortal superhero, Eternals is an intriguing and unique film in the superhero canon.
