Synopsis

A young Italian boy named Bambino takes a midnight boat trip with his father and grandfather, where they present him with a hat and introduce him to the family business. After quarrelling over the way he should wear his new hat, the moon appears in all its glory and the two men send Bambino up to begin work on sweeping up the golden stars which have crash landed on its surface. As the night goes on, Bambino will have to decide whether to follow the example of his father and his grandfather’s traditions or look to find his own way in life. Propelled by a gorgeous score, 'La Luna' is a visually beautiful representation of a child coming-of-age and was nominated for an Academy Award®.

What our educators say

"It really is a chance for us to open children's minds to the power of film not just as a vehicle for entertainment but also as a way in to understanding their own world and the worlds of people whose lives are very different."

- Marlon Perkins, Teacher, Whitstable and Seasalter Endowed CofE Junior School, Kent
