Synopsis

Zed is a British rapper of Pakistani descent, on the verge of beginning an American run of shows in support of a huge star, an opportunity that could propel him to the next level. Making the decision to visit his family back in London before embarking on the tour, Zed finds himself strangely distanced from his past life as a young Muslim growing up in England, unable to connect with his religious parents and others in the community. Suddenly struck down by a mysterious illness, he is forced to abandon the tour and must spend his time recovering, a situation which forces Zed into reckoning with his own cultural identity whilst dealing with growing anxieties about his career as a musician. Told with a highly personal edge, ‘Mogul Mowgli’ is a unique and often surprising look at the immigrant experience in Britain.

What our educators say

"It really is a chance for us to open children's minds to the power of film not just as a vehicle for entertainment but also as a way in to understanding their own world and the worlds of people whose lives are very different."
