Maddy Whittier suffers from a rare immuno-deficiency disorder known as SCID which means she is incredibly susceptible to infectious viruses. As a result, she has been confined to her home for her entire life, living only with her protective mother Pauline after her father and brother were killed in a car-crash when she was younger. When a new boy named Olly moves in next door, the two strike up a deep bond through texting one another which changes Maddy’s outlook on life considerably. She yearns to see the ocean and wants to experience first love like any other teenager, but her mother forbids it, leaving Maddy to decide just how much she is prepared to risk for her and Olly to be together.
